Moldings, 2019
Moldings are decorative elements in the house. Moldings dress the walls of the house. They create composition, rhythm and contrasting shadows on an otherwise blank and flat surface. They are loaded with cultural history, rich in decorative vocabulary, they hang on the wall in relief that in-between state of flatness and volume; two-and three dimensions; painting and sculpture; heaven and earth. Deeply influenced by the interiors of Adolf Loos, I regards architecture as a form of covering, whereas structure plays a secondary role and is there to hold the covering in place. If we are to approach the wall as a body and the work as a garment, then the role of the artist is to create this garment and to dress the wall. These works are then like garments to the wall.
